Walkabout West Cornwall app for iPhone and iPad
Walkabout West Cornwall is the second of a series of heritage-based apps designed for mobile phones and tablets. It is a collaboration with Penzance’s Penlee House Gallery and Museum, to unlock stories of the past using photographic, fine art, archaeological collections and archive film from South West Film & TV.
Walkabout West Cornwall takes the museum out into the Cornish landscape and uncovers approximately 5000 years of local history. It geolocates 230 artifacts within West Cornwall and explores fine art, in particular the paintings from the Newlyn School of Art period (1880 - 1930), archeological finds, historical items, photography and archive film. The social history of these artifacts create the narrative threads of the app which takes the participant on a journey through the landscape and historical timeline of West Cornwall.
